Today our meeting point will be set by the big flowerbed in Fuxing Park. The park is one of the oldest French style parks in Shanghai. Walking from Fuxing Park along Middle Fuxing Road and Sinan Road, here it used to be the French Concession but now is considered as Shanghai’s historical specimen, with the plane trees lining alongside the road, you will find the Old Shi Ku Men houses (stone-built house) and private gardens stands side by side here among which there are some former residences of Old Shanghai Celebrities: Former Residence of Zhang Xueliang (great General in Anti-Japanese War), Former Residence of Sun Yet-sen (Founder of Republic of China), Former Residence of Zhou Enlai (First Prime Minister of People’s Republic of China), etc.
Next, we will walk to the Bund Origin to explore the birth place of Modern Shanghai Finance and Trade Industry, and the Modern Shanghai urban civilization. The Bund Origin Area is a triangle area surrounded by the Huangpu River and Suzhou River. There are 14 distinguish old buildings you will see, and among which the former British Embassy is the oldest one which is built in the year 1849. Except for these buildings, the young artists in Shanghai rebuild some old factories here and make it a Shanghai style art exchange center with all kinds art studio, gallery and shops here.
